About Us

Family Matters Farm is Where Your Family Matters. Our Family owned farm has been in operation since 2002 though not in the same places. We started our farm operations in 2002 in New Hampshire while our reservest Dad was stationed there. In 2004, we moved back home to Ohio and set up operations a few sad years in Greene County Ohio. Finally, the summer of 2008 found us moving flocks and herds to Miami County Ohio to our new location at 310 N. Sayers Rd, Troy. We love it here and hope we never have to move again.

Our animal adventures started as a by-product of our home schooling and 4-H. Having started in 1993, we eventually ran out of interesting science labs to do. We had hatched the usual tadpoles and butterflies and NOBODY wanted to disect anything. So, chicken hatching was the natural choice. The kids decided they loved these mini dinosaurs, and our couple of pets continued to expand to include 4-H show fancy poultry, 50+ egg chickens, the flocks of 100+ meat chickens, ducks, guineas, and a single goose. We even have a couple of peacocks just for fun.

The two 4-H bunnies soon had lots of company, expanding to the high of 75 to the current 30+ rabbits. These include angora (for spinning wool), show mini-lops, show mini rexes, Netherland dwarves, and Californians (meat). Dairy goats followed the bunnies and home made cheese making starting. The milk is now the basis of our soaps and lotions as well as organically fattening our meat chickens. When we move back to our home state of Ohio, we brought a small herd of angora goats and a small flock of Romney sheep.

Our Bath products started when our littlest (now a teen) couldn't tolerate commercial soaps and our 4-H volunteering gave us a chance to sell our goat's milk soap. More and more products were tried and added till our line of all-natural bath and health products was born along with our soys candles and lotions. You never know where things will take you. Sometimes they get a life of their own. LOL

Though we have limited sales at the farm itself, we decided a web page would best offer our products when not at our many craft fairs and farmer's markets. Spring 2009, we will be offering shares in our co-op veggie garden. Everything will be naturally and organically raised though certifiction is a couple of years down the road. Co-op shares will include cut flowers and herbs as the come in. Our Petting area will be open to co-op members every week and open to the public for Spring Babies (lamb, goat, bunny and chicks)Days, and Harvest Party. Check Back Often to see how we grow.
